ME 4 to Saddleback

Saturday, August 11, 2012:

Fog and drizzle and a few light sprinkles dominated the day.  So when I got to the summit of 4120' Saddleback, the views were all local, not the sweeping ones stretching from Katahdin to Mt. Washington that the guidebooks say a good day can provide.

There were ponds along the way, and Piazza Rock might have offered views as well, but it wasn't worth the side trip today.

It was seven and a half hours of hiking, not difficult and not unpleasant.  I was really happy on the trail.  But I seem to be fighting a touch of the gastroenteritis that has been rampant among hikers in this area for the past few weeks.  And tonight the coming days have me worried.  This section has very sketchy road access points where it has any at all - and with all the heavy rain in the past few days, I don't know if the roads will even be passable.
