Segment 21: Illinois

OVERVIEW:

Okay, we’re finally ‘officially’ in Illinois.

Eastbound (i.e., Alaska to Maine, which in this segment is compass westbound) the trail follows the American Discovery Trail’s Illinois Southern Route from the Indiana border to mile 34.86 of segment 3 at Chester, Illinois, to take the Illinois Highway 51 Bridge over the Mississippi River and into Missouri.

This segment includes the best and longest footpath in Illinois, the River to River Trail through Shawnee National Forest.
